Heavenly Mountain Resort has set Friday, Nov. 20 as opening day, as Vail Resorts announced in August and the Tahoe Daily Tribune reported. The date depends on conditions, like every opening date. On that same Friday, the Tahoe Knight Monsters start Wizard Weekend at Tahoe Blue Event Center with a 7 p.m. puck drop, the middle game of a three-day homestand.
Free transit in the corridor was rebuilt this year around exactly this kind of weekend night. It doesn't cover the dates that fall early in the week. Four of the event nights between now and the end of December fall on a Wednesday or Sunday, when the late-night bus doesn't run. Those dates, more than opening weekend, are the ones worth putting on the calendar now.
The Thursday-to-Saturday clock
Tahoe Blue Event Center's own directions and parking page is blunt. Event parking sits in the four casino garages, and it's all paid:
"All parking is paid parking and rates vary for each event. To avoid paying for parking, guests are encouraged to park for FREE at the South Y Transit Center or the Kingsbury Transit Center and take the free bus service provided by TTD."
The bus in question is Tahoe Transportation District Route 51. The venue describes it as a route that "runs before and after all Thursday – Saturday events," stopping on US 50 directly in front of the building. TTD's posted timetable, effective July 27, 2026, lists Thursday through Saturday as the only service days. The eastbound late trips leave South Y every 30 minutes from 9:20 p.m. to 11:50 p.m.
| Stop | First late trip | Last late trip |
|---|---|---|
| South Y Transit Center | 9:20 p.m. | 11:50 p.m. |
| Stateline Transit Center | 9:43 p.m. | 12:13 a.m. |
| US 50/Lake Parkway, Bally's/Tahoe Blue Event Center | 9:45 p.m. | 12:15 a.m. |
| Kingsbury Transit Center | 9:47 p.m. | 12:17 a.m. |
For anyone living up the hill, Kingsbury Transit Center is the anchor. It's the end of the Route 51 line and one of the two free lots the venue recommends. Since TTD's January 2026 service change, it's also the eastbound end of Route 50. Getting to the corridor has also gotten easier lately. NDOT's US 50 East Shore resurfacing page says paving is complete, and only signs, striping, barrier painting and cleanup were scheduled through October 2026, with minimal delays expected.
Wizard Weekend meets opening day
The Nov. 19–21 stretch shows how the two parking systems sit side by side without competing. Heavenly's Nevada lots on Kingsbury Grade serve the mountain, and the casino garages and transit centers serve the arena.
Heavenly's getting here and parking page now says, "You no longer need parking reservations for the 2026/2027 season." Both Nevada base areas list free parking. Stagecoach Lodge at 375 Quaking Aspen Lane asks guests to come early because parking is limited. Boulder Lodge at 140 S. Benjamin Drive has a shuttle to Stagecoach. Both lodges ask skiers not to park on the surrounding streets. That street-parking request matters most to the homes around those two lodges. Without reservations to spread arrivals out, an opening-day crowd simply arrives early.
The resort page also describes a Kingsbury shuttle from Stateline Transit Center to Boulder and Stagecoach. The route map shown there is still labeled "Winter 2024-2025," so check this season's schedule on the resort site before planning a day around it.
A full Friday, Nov. 20, can run on almost entirely free parking and transit:
- Ski from Stagecoach or Boulder, both free lots, arriving early on opening day.
- Head down the hill for après. Tessie's Cocktails & Chords inside Caesars Republic planned an "Amped Après" from 3 to 6 p.m. daily during ski season, along with live music seven nights a week, South Tahoe Now reported ahead of its summer opening.
- Park at Kingsbury Transit Center and ride in for the 7 p.m. Wizard Weekend game.
- Catch a Route 51 trip back to Kingsbury. The last one reaches the arena stop at 12:15 a.m.
Caesars Republic is the former Harveys. Its grand opening on July 7 followed a reported $200 million, two-year transformation, according to the Tahoe Daily Tribune, so for many locals this will be the property's first ski season under its new name. Earlier in our coverage of the corridor, we looked at how the Sage Room moved upstairs as casino dining got reshuffled.
The Thursday game that opens the homestand is different. Nov. 19 is the Knight Monsters' School Day game at 10:30 a.m. Route 51's posted trips are all late evening, so a morning crowd will rely on the garages and regular routes.
The nights that fall outside the schedule
Lay the arena calendar from publication day through December against Route 51's service days, and you can see exactly where the free ride home stops. Lake Link's closing time is included because, as the next section explains, it's the backup.
| Date | Day | Event | Route 51 posted service | Lake Link closes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Oct. 30 | Fri | Knight Monsters vs. Kansas City | Yes | 11 p.m. |
| Oct. 31 | Sat | Knight Monsters vs. Kansas City | Yes | 11 p.m. |
| Nov. 8 | Sun | Caesars Lake Tahoe Classic | No | 9 p.m. |
| Nov. 12 | Thu | Lake Tahoe Lakers vs. Vernal Oilers | Yes | 9 p.m. |
| Nov. 13–14 | Fri–Sat | Lake Tahoe Lakers vs. Ontario Jr. Reign | Yes | 11 p.m. |
| Nov. 19 | Thu | Knight Monsters School Day, 10:30 a.m. | Evening only | 9 p.m. |
| Nov. 20–21 | Fri–Sat | Knight Monsters Wizard Weekend, 7 p.m. | Yes | 11 p.m. |
| Nov. 25 | Wed | Knight Monsters Gobble Wobble, 7 p.m. | No | 9 p.m. |
| Nov. 27 | Fri | Knight Monsters Black Out Friday, 7 p.m. | Yes | 11 p.m. |
| Nov. 28 | Sat | Knight Monsters Fansgiving, 7 p.m. | Yes | 11 p.m. |
| Dec. 11–12 | Fri–Sat | Knight Monsters vs. Toledo | Yes | 11 p.m. |
| Dec. 13 | Sun | Knight Monsters vs. Toledo | No | 9 p.m. |
| Dec. 18–19 | Fri–Sat | Knight Monsters vs. Wichita | Yes | 11 p.m. |
| Dec. 20 | Sun | Knight Monsters vs. Wichita | No | 9 p.m. |
The Wednesday before Thanksgiving is the clearest gap. Gobble Wobble starts at 7 p.m. on Nov. 25. Route 51 doesn't run that day, and Lake Link stops at 9 p.m., likely before the third period ends. If family is in town for the holiday and the plan is a game the night before, decide in advance who drives and where they park.
The Caesars Lake Tahoe Classic on Sunday, Nov. 8 is the other date to plan around. It's a four-game college basketball event in two sessions, with matchups that include Nevada vs. St. Mary's and Houston vs. California. A Sunday doubleheader with no Route 51 service means most of the crowd will be in the casino garages, which is useful to know even if you aren't going.
Holiday weeks can also bring their own transit schedules. TTD's Route 51 page is the place to check for service alerts close to each date.
Where Lake Link fills in, and where it stops
Lake Link, the free app-based microtransit service, grew on July 15. Its coverage now reaches the top of Kingsbury Grade Road, Zephyr Cove, Tahoe Keys and Lake Tahoe Airport, and rides are still free. For homes up the grade, that turns Lake Link into a door-to-corridor link that didn't exist last ski season.
Three details from the Lake Link expansion guide shape how it works on event nights:
- Hours: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Hours didn't change with the expansion.
- Zones: The service area is now split into three zones. Longer trips between zones may hand off to a Route 50 bus, which now runs every 30 minutes along the main corridor, and the app plans the connection.
- Booking: Rides can't be booked ahead of time, so a postgame request goes into the queue along with everyone else's.
Those hours explain the table above. On a Friday or Saturday, Lake Link stays on until 11 p.m. and Route 51 runs past midnight, so the two services overlap and either one can get you home from a 7 p.m. game. On a Wednesday or Sunday, Lake Link ends at 9 p.m. and Route 51 doesn't run, so the free options are gone before a typical evening game is over. Lake Link's Visit Lake Tahoe listing describes it as year-round service covering Round Hill, Lower Kingsbury, the Douglas County casino corridor, Round Hill Village and Zephyr Cove, so it handles daytime errands well in every season.
This is the Knight Monsters' third ECHL season, and most of their home dates through December fall on Fridays and Saturdays. The Wednesday and Sunday games are the ones where you'll be driving or paying to park.
If you own on Kingsbury Grade or near the casino corridor, a season like this one shapes what a Stateline home is like to live in, from how traffic on the Nevada side flows on opening day to how close a home is to a free lot or a Lake Link pickup.
