Drive down West Lake Boulevard this month looking for a table at West Shore Café and you will not find one to book. That is not a seasonal closure. The property that has anchored Homewood's dinner and happy-hour routine for over a decade has stopped taking daily reservations altogether, and its own site now describes itself as an amenity built primarily for owners at the new Homewood Mountain and Lake Club, with the public welcomed only at select events.
For a place that has hosted boat-in lunches, ski-day happy hours, and weddings on its lakefront lawn since 2010, that is a real change in what the building is for, not just when it is open. The café's current site is explicit that it is not currently taking reservations for daily dining or weddings, a booking category it has run continuously for years.
How West Shore Café Describes Its Current Use
Most West Shore restaurants close for a stretch each winter and reopen the same way they left. This is different. The language on West Shore Café's own site frames the property as being reimagined primarily for homeowners and their guests, with the broader community invited back only for specific occasions. That is a shift in the business model, not a maintenance pause. There is no posted date for when, or whether, public daily dining returns.
One piece of the old arrangement survives regardless of who is holding a reservation. California's public land easement still applies to the shoreline in front of the café, so the beach and the view remain open to anyone walking the property line. What has changed is the pier's function. It is not a public mooring, and every buoy near the café is managed separately through Homewood High & Dry Marina, which runs independently from both the resort and the restaurant. If you are boating over expecting to tie up and walk in for dinner, that is the detail that trips people up now.
Changes at the Café and Resort
Homewood Mountain Resort is also undergoing changes. Its own construction page for the new gondola states plainly that all trails, access roads, and on-mountain areas are closed until the resort reopens for winter. That closure has been the visible part of the story for anyone driving past the base area this summer and fall.
The less visible part is that the timeline finally has a firm shape. A Ski California update on member resorts, published September 22, 2026, confirms that Homewood's new eight-passenger gondola, replacing the aging Madden Chair, is set to open this winter alongside improved snowmaking, a new beginner ski school area, and a Ski School Warming Yurt. The gondola project is underway while West Shore Café describes its property primarily as an amenity for homeowners and their guests. We've written before about property values on the West Shore.
Chambers Landing Reopens
According to the Tahoe Daily Tribune, Chambers Landing reopened this year under new ownership: Luca Genasci's Tahoe Lifestyle & Leisure group, which also runs AleWorX, The Bistro at the Corner, Lakeview Social, Backyard Bar & Grill, Cocktail Corner, and The Lake House in South Lake Tahoe. The new hours run seven days a week, from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and until 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, a longer and steadier schedule than the shorter, dinner-focused season the property ran under prior ownership.
Chambers Landing carries its own weight of history. The property includes the 1875 boathouse, believed to be the first ever built on Lake Tahoe, and it still stands on site today. Chambers Landing's expansion to daily, full-week service adds another option for West Shore diners.
What This Means For Your Week
If you want dinner on the water this fall, Chambers Landing has expanded to daily service; West Shore Café is not currently taking reservations for daily dining. If you just want the shoreline and the view, the public easement in front of West Shore Café still holds, even without a table to sit at. If you are boating over, remember the pier there is not a public dock. Buoys and storage run through Homewood High & Dry Marina, a separate operation from both the café and the resort.
The gondola's opening is a date worth watching as the resort's base-area changes continue.
